Hike No 32: Twiss Road to Crawford Lake, Milton

Image
Twiss Road to Crawford Lake, Milton Today we decided to hike in and out from Twiss Road to Crawford Lake, Milton. We've been finding that there are less parking options in this section of the Bruce without about 5-6 kms in between each one. We usually like to do sections of about 8kms in length but the lack of parking along the trail doesn't really allow for much choice.  The trail head is only about 50 metres from the roadside parking on Twiss road.  The first two kilometres of the trial winds in and amongst boulders.  There is a cave that you can walk through.    Entrance to cave Exit from cave Rock Stairs with trail marker seen at the top The trail here was a little difficult to spot as the marker couldn't be seen until we climbed to the top of the rock face. It was a bit of a scavenger hunt.  Peter consulting the trail map in lieu of markers as we navigate the trail Peter carrying Cloe up the stone "stairs" Once we reached the plateau at the...

Hike #31: No. 8 Sideroad to Twiss Road

Today we started our hike on No. 8 Side Road and left our second car on Twiss Road. There is limited roadside parking at both locations and no facilities. Other than the boardwalk through the marsh there was not many interesting features on this leg of the trek. The first two kms of our hike today were on the road. Roadside Parking on No. 8 Side Road We started out walking along Twiss road before turning onto Derry Road. Derry road is quite busy so make sure to walk facing oncoming traffic. After walking for about a kilometre down Derry we came to the trailhead and entered the woods. There is no parking on Derry Road. A portion of this trail passes through a marsh on a boardwalk.  View of marsh from the trail View of the marsh from Twiss Road Twiss Road parking Hike #31 Date:                      April 10th, 2022 Start:                        No 8 Side Road ...

Hike #30: Mount Nemo Conservation Area to No 8 Side Road, Burlington

Mount Nemo Conservation Area to No 8 Side Road We started todays hike close to where we left off last time at Mount Nemo Conservation Area. We neglected to make reservations ahead of time and there was no one in the booth so we we found roadside parking nearby on Colling Road.  We tried to make a reservation on our phones but the internet in this area is spotty at best. The Bruce Trail runs alongside Colling Road (southwest) on a dirt trail. This was a pleasant hike with the trail separated from the road by wire fencing.  Bruce Trail alongside Colling Road Bruce Trail alongside Colling Road On the West side of the trail is the former Lowville Quarry. As you can see in the pictures below, trespassing is definitely forbidden.  Lowville Quarry (former) When you get to the end of the Bruce Trail section that parallels Colling Road, the trail turns 90 degrees and continues along Blind Line (northwest). This section is on a quiet country road and passes by a few hor...
