Hike #13 Grimsby Lions Pool to Cline Mountain Rd

Hike #13 Grimsby Lions Pool to Cline Mountain rd

Today we embarked on the approximately 121 km Iroquoia section of the Bruce Trail. We parked one of our cars at Grimsby Lions Pool and left the other at the end of Cline Mountain Rd (limited street parking). There is free parking at both locations.

Our journey started by walking south on Gibson and viewing the pedestrian bridge across Forty Creek. The bridge is currently closed pending repairs.

The trail passes by several heritage homes on Gibson Street before entering the woods. The area was reminiscent of Westfield Heritage Village where some of the scenes from Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea were filmed.

Here we enter the Ancient shoreline of Lake Iroquois. This area is represents the postglacial lakeshore that formed a horseshoe around the western end of present day Lake Ontario.

This trail follows Forty Creek south on the west bank to the top of Beamer Falls through lush green forests.

As you trek to the top of Beamer Falls there is an escarpment climb up a rock stair case with stunning views of the ravine below. The climb seemed to continue forever.

Rest stop at the top of the staircase

At the top of the staircase you have the option of taking the 580 metre Beamers Falls Side Trail.

When you get to the end of the Beamer's Falls Side Trail, continue on Ridge Rd (East) across the green bridge and along the roadside trail to view the falls.

On Ridge Road there is a small lot with free parking to view Beamer Falls. Here you will also find a small bed and breakfast if you are looking for an enchanted countryside retreat.  Beamer Falls Manor

When you return to the Bruce Trail you will merge with the Lookout Trail where there are accessible viewing platforms with panoramic views of Grimsby, the escarpment, and Lake Ontario. These are definitely the nicest views of the lake and towns below from the escarpment that we've seen so far.

The trail will eventually lead you into Beamer Memorial Conservation Area where you will find more information about the trails, the falls, and wildlife in the area. There is also a hawk viewing platform, picnic areas, and washroom facilities.

The trail emerges onto Quarry rd where you will embark on a 2km road stretch along Quarry and Ridge Rd before reentering the woods off Woolverton Rd.

We headed South on Quarry Road until it ended in a T-junction at Ridge Road. The trail heads west on Ridge road past  Ridge Road Farm

We spotted an interesting spotted frog in the ditch along Ridge Road. Post in the comments if you know what type of frog this is.

When you reach Wolverton, turn right heading north towards the lake. The trail will reenter the woods west off of Woolverton.

There are quite a few lookout points as the Bruce Trail follows the edge of the escarpment.

Crevice

You will start to descend the escarpment. The staircase is quite steep and rocky and was made a little more challenging by slippery conditions due to the constant stream of drizzle that was falling all morning.

We took the Cline Mountain Side Trail (approximately 320 metres) to our parked car. It is a steady gravel decent.
