Hike #15 Lewis Rd to Leslie Drive Stoney Creek
Hike #15 Lewis Rd, Winona to Leslie Drive, Stoney Creek |
We started todays hike on Lewis Rd. From the roadside parking we took the 460m Lewis Road Side trail. It meets up with the Bruce Trail just below the ridge after a steep climb up the escarpment involving several switchbacks. We parked our other vehicle on Leslie Road in Stoney Creek. There are no washroom facilities along this section of the Bruce Trail.

At McNeilly Rd the Bruce Trail enters the Vinemount Conservation area. Be careful crossing, as McNeilly is a busy road with a blind corner.
This section of the trail is for hiking only. From this point on the trail parallels a set of active railroad tracks that are visible through the woods from time-to-time.
We crossed many small unmarked streams and traversed multiple ravines. As a result there are several gentle climbs and descents.
Jones Road is another access point with parking if you do not wish to do a 9km stretch. Keep an eye out for the Jones Road Side Trail which is about 3kms from where the Lewis Road side trail joints with the Bruce Trail.
Just one of many small climbs/descents we encountered. |
One of many small streams that we forded on our journey. |
We encountered many different species of mushrooms on this trek - no Smurfs here though! |
We did see evidence of a campfire🔥 pitstop.
The underside of some pretty mushrooms. |
There were a few openings in the woods with nice views of lower Stoney Creek and Burlington across Lake Ontario.
View of lower Stoney Creek and Lake Ontario - Burlington lies in the distance. |
MacDui Drive access trail is about 5.5kms from where we entered the Bruce Trail and is about halfway to Leslie Drive.
Be careful crossing Dewitt Road as it is very busy. There is roadside parking on the west side of Dewitt rd (one-way southbound) at the trail entrance. This parking can accommodate four cars.

The rain in the days leading up to our hike helped to liven up many of the streams and ravines that were normally dry. |
View of Stoney Creek (foreground), Burlington (back ground) and Lake Ontario. Millen Road Side Trail is about 6kms from Lewis Road. |
Rest Stop bench provided by Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club |
Taking a break on the 'Rest, Look, and Listen 'bench provided by Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club. If only we'd brought snacks. If you sit long enough, you may hear a train whistle from the nearby tracks.
