Hike #28: Highway #5 to Guelph Line, Burlington
Highway #5 to Guelph Line, Burlington |
Today we parked our car roadside on Guelph Line and got a lift to our starting location on Highway 5 (just east of Kerns road in Burlington). Highway #5 is really busy and we didn't feel it was safe leaving our car parked there. I suggest City View Park on Kerns Road as an alternate starting location. The entrance to the trail is on the North side of Highway 5 off a private drive.
This section of the Bruce, with its gentle rolling hills, is for hiking only.

Section of trail between Hwy #5 and Cedar Springs road. |
The woods here were tight to the trail, forming a tunnel. It would be interesting to see what they are like with foliage in the summer/fall. |
Once you reach Cedar Springs Road there is a brief section that is on the road. Cedar Springs Road is pretty busy so be careful and make sure to walk facing oncoming traffic.
Entrance to trail at the end of Springer Rd. |

Meadow at the southern end of Fishers Pond.
Be sure to stop at the Trail Workers Rest stop (near Fishers Pond) to leave a note in the log book.
The trail then continues through mature woods. The terrain was quite hilly. Many of the valleys were lined with small streams that were collecting water from the melting snow. We crossed a few proper streams with rocky beds.
With the snow and pine trees we felt as though we'd just stepped out of Narnia.
On the final leg of our trek today, the trail climbed one last hill to pass between a farmers' filed and a meadow consisting of yellow tall grass. We could clearly hear the breeze rustling through the grasses of the meadow. On the side of the trail we found a marvelous tree that may have been Owl's former home.
Final section of trail before ended at Guelph Line (Burlington). Grassy meadow to right (south) and farmers field to left. |
