#37: St. Helena Road to 4th Line, Halton Hills

Today we parked our car at our final destination on 4th Line, Halton Hills. At this location there is roadside parking. Note that trail users are asked not to park in front of the junkyard. We then took an Uber for about $14 (not including tip) to St. Helena Road. It is worth mentioning that a lot of Uber drivers don't want to come out to these remote locations so you may have to wait for someone to pick you up. I also advise parking at your destination and taking the Uber to your starting point. That way you're not stuck at the end of your hike with no ride back to your car making your hike double what you'd planned. There are no washroom facilities for this leg of the trek. There are several options for parking on this stretch. Below you can see the roadside parking for St. Helena Road. 




Make sure to pack your heavy duty deet bug spray for this leg of the Bruce Trail as you will be trekking through marshy mosquito infested areas. 










The Al Shaw Side Trail will connect you with the Hilton Falls Side Trail. 










Another good spot to park is Pear Tree Park (about 2.5 kms from St. Helena Road). Here there are several tributes to those committed to preserving the Bruce Trail. There are no washroom facilities at this spot. 







Once you leave Pear Tree Park you will be walking along 15 Side Road until you reenter the woods at Speyside. 


This was an interesting stretch of road that takes you past an abandoned gas station. 














There are several side trails that form loops with the Bruce Trail. In addition, this section of the Bruce Trail is very accessible as there are several parking locations. On the downside it is quite buggy. If we revisit this section of the Bruce it will likely be in late fall or winter.









 17 Sideroad Side Trail leads to roadside parking. 





Just note that if you're interested in seeing Hilton Falls you are best to park at Hilton Falls Conservation area. If you take a side trail from this point you could be looking at a hike of 10kms or more. 






Canada Goose Side Trail leads to roadside parking on 22 Sideroad.

Hike #59: Devil's Glen to Nottawasaga Lookout Provincial Park

  Hike #59 Devil's Glen to No 26/17 Nottawasaga Side Road Today we parked on No 26/27 Nottawasaga Side Road and took an Uber to our starting location at the Devil's Glen parking lot (spots for 10 cars). There is roadside parking on No 26/27 SR. We almost had to cancel our Uber as he attempted to approach via Concession 10 South, and 26/27 was not accessible from that direction without four wheel drive. Fortunately, he was the same Uber driver that we tipped very well the previous week so he found an alternate route to us. I suggest if you are taking an Uber from this spot that you walk approximately 1.5 Kms to Osprey Clearview Townline Road. This parking spot would not be accessible in winter; however, you would be able to access the trail from the Devil's Glen Parking Lot. There were no washroom facilities at either parking location. Hike #60: Nottawasaga Lookout to Pretty River Valey

  Nottawasaga Lookout Provincial Nature Reserve to Pretty River Valley Provincial Park Today we left a bike (in case we couldn't get an Uber) at the head of the Pretty River Access Trail on Pretty River Road (roadside parking   for 5 cars). There was no signal to call for an Uber so we traveled another kilometre east down the road to park our car at  Snowdrifters Parking Area  (20 cars).  At Snowdrifters Parking Area we had enough of a signal to request an Uber which took us to 26/27 Sideroad Nottawasaga   where the Bruce Trail enters the southern boundary of the Nottawasaga Lookout PNR (roadside parking for 5 cars).   Note that 26/27 Sideroad is only accessible by car from the west.  Most of the road from Concession 10 North towards Clearview Townline road requires a serious off road vehicle (e.g., ATV or monster truck).  From 26/27 Sideroad the trail heads north through the Notawasaga Lookout PNR, curving westwards towards the intersec...
