#37: St. Helena Road to 4th Line, Halton Hills

Today we parked our car at our final destination on 4th Line, Halton Hills. At this location there is roadside parking. Note that trail users are asked not to park in front of the junkyard. We then took an Uber for about $14 (not including tip) to St. Helena Road. It is worth mentioning that a lot of Uber drivers don't want to come out to these remote locations so you may have to wait for someone to pick you up. I also advise parking at your destination and taking the Uber to your starting point. That way you're not stuck at the end of your hike with no ride back to your car making your hike double what you'd planned. There are no washroom facilities for this leg of the trek. There are several options for parking on this stretch. Below you can see the roadside parking for St. Helena Road. 




Make sure to pack your heavy duty deet bug spray for this leg of the Bruce Trail as you will be trekking through marshy mosquito infested areas. 










The Al Shaw Side Trail will connect you with the Hilton Falls Side Trail. 










Another good spot to park is Pear Tree Park (about 2.5 kms from St. Helena Road). Here there are several tributes to those committed to preserving the Bruce Trail. There are no washroom facilities at this spot. 







Once you leave Pear Tree Park you will be walking along 15 Side Road until you reenter the woods at Speyside. 


This was an interesting stretch of road that takes you past an abandoned gas station. 














There are several side trails that form loops with the Bruce Trail. In addition, this section of the Bruce Trail is very accessible as there are several parking locations. On the downside it is quite buggy. If we revisit this section of the Bruce it will likely be in late fall or winter.









 17 Sideroad Side Trail leads to roadside parking. 





Just note that if you're interested in seeing Hilton Falls you are best to park at Hilton Falls Conservation area. If you take a side trail from this point you could be looking at a hike of 10kms or more. 






Canada Goose Side Trail leads to roadside parking on 22 Sideroad.

  Chinguacousy, Cheltenham to McLaren Road, Forks of the Credit We started today's hike where we left off last time, parking our car on Chinguacousy. Initially we were going to park at our end destination on Highway 11 and Uber back to Chinguacousy; however, roadside parking was closed due to a bike race. As a result we continued through Forks of the Credit Provincial Park to McLaren road instead of looping back around to the #11 parking spot. From McLaren we called a cab service in Orangeville (Al's Yellow Cab) to transport us back to Chinguacousy ($22.70).  We tried Uber but no driver picked up the ride. There are restrooms along the Bruce Trail in Forks of the Credit Provincial Park. Hike #8: Rockway to Louth Conservation

  Our trek today started at Rockway Community Centre. We parked our second car at the Staff Avenue Parking Lot (base of the Louth Conservation Area).  Both locations had free parking but no washroom facilities. There was limited parking at Staff Ave (12 cars) Rockway Side Trail We took the Rockway Side Trail to the Bruce Trail which leads towards the bottom of the Rockway Falls. When we got to the bridge we strayed from the Bruce Trail and headed south on the left side of the river to the base of the falls.  This is the only way to see the falls as you cannot see them from the top at the Rockway Community Centre or from the Bruce Trail. This involved a bit of a detour (about 500 metres each way) on an unmarked trail. Be cautious of falling rocks. Hike #53 BTC Parking Area 30 Sideroad Mulmur to Concession 10 South Nottawasaga & Garden of Eden Rd (Noisy River)

Hike #53 BTC Parking Area 30 Sideroad Mulmur to Concession 10 South Nottawasaga & Garden of Eden Rd (Noisy River) We started today's hike at the BTC parking area on 30 Sideroad in Mulmur.  I do not recommend approaching the parking area from from Ist Line EHS as it can hardly be called a road.  The parking lot had washroom facilities (a porta-potty).  We only brought one vehicle and left Peter's mountain bike (and a camping chair for Amanda) at our final destination - Concession 10 South Nottawasaga & Garden of Eden Rd.  Biking out of the Noisy River valley after a long hike to retrieve the car was less than fun!
