Hike #53 BTC Parking Area 30 Sideroad Mulmur to Concession 10 South Nottawasaga & Garden of Eden Rd (Noisy River)

Hike #53 BTC Parking Area 30 Sideroad Mulmur to Concession 10 South Nottawasaga & Garden of Eden Rd (Noisy River)

We started today's hike at the BTC parking area on 30 Sideroad in Mulmur.  I do not recommend approaching the parking area from from Ist Line EHS as it can hardly be called a road.  The parking lot had washroom facilities (a porta-potty).  We only brought one vehicle and left Peter's mountain bike (and a camping chair for Amanda) at our final destination - Concession 10 South Nottawasaga & Garden of Eden Rd.  Biking out of the Noisy River valley after a long hike to retrieve the car was less than fun!

Trail from BTC parking area to Line 1 EHS

The first section of the trail ran North on 1st Line EHS between farmers fields.  It then turns left (west) on Mulmu-Nottawasag Towline Rd passing the small community of Lavender.  It is here that we enter the Blue Mountains Section of the Bruce trail, leaving the Dufferin Hi-Lands section behind.  We did not see a placard indicating this transition.

Lean-to at side of Concession 2 South in Lavender

Shortly after crossing Lavender Hill Rd, the the trail turns right (north) along Concession 2 South Nottawasaga.  It is easy to miss this right-hand turn.  The trail then enters the woods and heads north into the Noisy River Provincial Nature Reserve.

There are several beam bridges scattered throughout the Nature Reserve

The trail quickly turns left (west) to travel through the Noisy River Provincial Nature Reserve for approximately 3.5km before skirting a small lake.  This area is dotted with chasms and large boulders.  Sections of the trail pass through cedars and other sections though hardwoods.  Many of the trees were displaying beautiful fall colours.

The chasms along the trail had cedars growing around them

Some of the chasms in this section were very deep

Lots o' mushrooms were out today!

Keep a close eye on the trail blazes.  In some sections they are difficult to find...

Large boulder in the middle of the trail.  Blazes were very difficult to find this section - easy to get lost...

The trail then skirts around the south-western edge of a small lake and turns north.  The views here were spectacular!  The trail then descended towards a curve in the road where Concession 10 South meets with Garden of Eden Road.  These roads are not paved.  Peter quickly hiked ahead, mounted his bike, and cycled back to the BTC parking area on 30 Sideroad.  The short section of Concession 10 South towards Mulmur-Nottawasaga Townline was a steep incline and not a welcome end to a long hike!  Peter continued south on Concession 10 to 30 Sideroad and the BTC parking area.  The views of the farmer's fields and horse farms on 30 Sideroad were fantastic!
